Don’t Use My Sweater Like a Towel – Part 2

Nature Soul and Respect…

Looking out on the sea of humanity on the verge of turning forty, I had been in deep contemplation about “Leaky Soul Syndrome.” It’s a theory I have that as people lose touch with their spiritual side, holes develop in their souls allowing basic respect and consideration for others to drip away. I shared this with Gary and asked if he thought people have a hard time with relationships because they have lost touch with their souls. He said, “Yes, people do seem like they have holes in their souls. If you do not have respect for others it cuts down on your own character and your own soul.”

“Your decision to evolve consciously through responsibility choice contributes not only to your own evolution, but also to the evolution of all of those aspects of humanity in which you participate. It is not just you that is evolving through your decisions, but the entirety of humanity.”

Then I told him a story about Larry, a man I had dated. We were having brunch on a beautiful Sunday at the Ritz Carlton, in their elegant restaurant, which serves great food. As we walked around the buffet tables filling our plates, we stopped in front of the sushi station where Larry proceeded to tell the sushi chef how to make the California roll. In a true display of male ego gone unbearably wrong, he boasted about his own skills in the kitchen and his past experiences as a chef. I was mortified, and after a minute, I left not able to take his arrogance and lack of respect for the sushi chef.

When I got back to the table, he was already sitting down. His finger had a deep gash and was bleeding rather badly. He picked up a white napkin and wrapped it around his finger. I asked him what happened and if he was okay. He said that the crab leg he was eating somehow “cut” him. I found it hard to contain my judgment and laughter, since California rolls are made from crabmeat. I could just see Larry looking self-righteous while telling the sushi chef how to do his job, the chef getting annoyed and, whack! Had Larry’s karma came back that fast or had he lost some of his soul connection? In my view, Larry’s soul had holes and had leaked all over the Ritz. Though the crab was dead in physical terms, I believe nature had reminded him that a lack of respect for others and a numb, careless existence is ultimately painful. His finger bled continually for three days straight.

I think that we all get signs subtle and not-so-subtle signs all the time, but we have to listen and be willing to do the work to improve our lives.

“We seek to cure dysfunctions of the body by controlling its environment at the molecular level. In other words, our approach to healing is based upon the perception of our approach to healing is based upon the perception of power as external. This type of healing can be helpful to the body, but it does not, and cannot, heal at the level of the soul.”

About Jennifer Kelton

I did not wake up one morning and say “hey I think I’d like a man use my sweater like a towel, write a candid dating book, become a dating expert, the CEO and founder of a social dating site and have three blogs.”

All of this has happened in a slow burn and here I am. The good, the bad, the mistakes, way too many tears shed to count, lots of wine and oh my goodness a huge learning curve that leaves me much of the time saying, “I’m sorry but this is all new to me.”

It was 2:44 A.M. when, for the third night in a row, I woke up with beyond extreme pain (the kind I would not wish on my worst enemy) from a root canal that I had just had days before. As I shuffled, with my bed head hair, blurry eyes and freshly [...]
